Woman shot and killed at Washington Avenue apartment

UPDATE (October 23, 2025, 8:45 p.m.): Bobby Wright Jr., DOB 12/26/1981, has been taken into custody and charged in the shooting death of a 27-year-old woman outside of a Washington Avenue apartment.

Based on continued investigation following the shooting, it is believed that Wright and the victim’s husband, a 36-year-old man, were involved in an altercation. During that altercation, Wright assaulted the male victim and the gun Wright was holding discharged a round that struck the female victim. Wright then left the scene in a red truck.

Wright was later located by KPD officers in the Merchant Drive area and taken into custody on Pleasant Ridge Road following a brief pursuit.

Wright has been charged with reckless homicide, aggravated assault and felon in possession of a weapon.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

A woman was shot and killed outside of a Washington Avenue apartment on Thursday afternoon.

At around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a shooting at 1900 Washington Avenue.

The preliminary investigation showed that the woman was shot during a confrontation involving two other men. The woman was transported to the UT Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. One man was treated at the hospital for injuries sustained during the altercation.

Following the shooting, the suspect left the scene. At this time, the suspect is not in custody. Detectives are pursuing active leads.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by KPD’s Homicide Unit.
